Artyom Manukyan

Artyom Manukyan was born on June 28, 1983, in Yerevan. At the age of 8, he began attending cello classes at the Yerevan Music School named after Stepan Jrbashyan. During those years, he also played in the "Little Jazz" ensemble. He taught himself to play the double bass and bass guitar. In 2005, he graduated from the cello department of the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, studying under Medea Abrahamyan and Aram Talalyan. Alongside his studies, he participated in various competitions and festivals in Germany, Greece, and Russia. Since 2005, Artyom has been a member of the "Armenian Navy Band" and "Cats" groups, with whom he has performed at numerous prestigious jazz festivals and collaborated with world-renowned musicians. Starting from 2006, he has worked with several famous Armenian musicians. In 2010, he joined the renowned group "Night Ark" together with Vahagn Hayrapetyan. He moved to the USA in 2011.

Cellist Artyom Manukyan made a name for himself as a musician in Armenia and subsequently toured the World, becoming one of the youngest musicians to do so. He was honored with the "BBC World Music Award" as a member of the "Armenian Navy Band" group. Currently based in Los Angeles, Artyom Manukyan has collaborated with renowned international artists such as Darryl McDaniels of Run-D.M.C., Grammy Award-winning Latin alternative rocker Draco Rosa, and Natasha Bedingfield. He has also performed and conducted for film and television, notably with his electro-jazz quartet. Additionally, he has worked as a music designer for TV shows, including Dr. Phil and Jimmy Kimmel, where he has performed alongside Coldplay and Bono.

Since moving to Los Angeles in 2010, Artyom has been in demand as a musician and film score composer. He has worked on projects such as “Hannibal Season 2”, “Dear White People Season 2”, “Cartel Land”, “Zipper”, “Central Intelligence”, “Geostorm”, “Birth of a Dragon”, “Luke Cage”, and “Green Book”, which won an Oscar in 2019 for Best Film of the Year. Artyom has collaborated with various artists including Everlast, Kamasi Washington, Melody Gardot, Daedalus, Flying Lotus, Peter Erskine, Hadrien Feraud, Charles Altura, MdCL, Tigran Hamasyan, Herb Alpert, Capital Cities, Vahagni, VOCE, and Gretchen Parlato, with whom he was nominated for the 2022 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Album of the Year. He was also a guest artist at the 2016 New Direction Cello Festival.

In his spare time, he teaches private lessons and has also been a guest teacher at the Tumo Center for Creative Technologies. He has recorded 2 albums. Currently, he has returned to Armenia to implement a number of cultural projects.
