Gilles Apap

Gilles Apap was born in Algeria to a French family and studied in France and at the Curtis Institute in the USA, later settling in California. He chose an independent artistic path outside the conventions of the classical music industry. He has performed with orchestras including the Leipzig Gewandhaus, San Francisco Symphony, Israel Philharmonic, and others, often as both soloist and conductor. He is known for cross-genre projects such as “The Colors of Invention,” “Meduoteran,” and “The Transylvanian Mountain Boys,” blending classical music with folk, jazz, and world traditions. He has collaborated with Yehudi Menuhin, Roby Lakatos, Didier Lockwood, and others, and is also active in music education with a focus on improvisation and cultural diversity.
