

Hayk Khachatryan
Hayk Khachatryan was born in 1973 into a family of musicians and began playing the violin at the age of seven. In 1990, he studied double bass at the State Conservatory of Yerevan with Professor Vahe Terzyan, completing his studies in 1997. From 1997 to 2001, he obtained his concert and pedagogical diploma from the Tibor Varga Music Academy, with Professor Ferenc as his main mentor and Professors Tibor Varga and Gabor Takacs as chamber music mentors. During these years, he received a scholarship from the Choukassyants Brothers Foundation.
Hayk has performed as a soloist with the Armenian State Chamber Orchestra, the Tibor Varga Festival Orchestra (with Tibor Varga), and with the La Folia Orchestra (with Mirion Glass). During his time as a student, Hayk won the first prize at the Chamber Music Competition Valentino Bucci, and performed with various orchestras, including the Yerevan Symphony Orchestra (1990-1997), the Serenade Chamber Orchestra (1990-1997), the Armenian State Chamber Orchestra (1993-1994), the National Orchestra of Lyon (1997-2000), and the Berne Symphony Orchestra (2004-2005).
Hayk has been a member of the Zurich Opera Orchestra and the Ensemble "Scintilla" since the year 2000. From 2006 to 2013, he was a member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Since 2007, he has been a member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, and since 2009, he has also been a member of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra.
As a chamber musician, Hayk has appeared at numerous festivals, including the Lucerne Festival, Aix-en-Provence Festival, Menuhin Festival Gstaad, the International Pharos Chamber Music Festival (Cyprus), and the International Diaghilev Festival (Perm, Russia).
Claudio Abbado, Zubin Mehta, Bernard Haitink, Pierre Boulez, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Nello Santi, Sir Roger Norrington, Franz Welser-Möst, Daniele Gatti, Ricardo Chailly, Daniel Harding, Andris Nelsons, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and Teodor Currentzis are among the conductors with whom Hayk has worked in Europe, the USA, Japan, and China.
